So... spent the weekend working on this. It's a pony fangame I can actually make, because it doesn't require tons of art to work - a roguelike
Roguelikes, to those not in the knows, is an RPG that usually takes place entirely in a randomly/procedurally generated dungeon. They are usually created using ascii art rather than actual graphics. Also, normally you only get one life, if you die, you restart in a new randomly generated dungeon. Challenging stuff.
So, what I have so far is basically just all the code to randomly generate maps based on a pool of rooms that I have created, with code to make certain rooms rare, certain rooms only spawn a maximum number of times and such. So, this library is medium rare, with a maximum of one spawn per level, but all those corridors and things are common, and no limit to how many appear per level.
Movement is also coded, next is combat and enemy movement, then inventory stuff.
I don't actually have a plot as such yet, but with the randomly generated stuff, I guess something involving Discord is most appropriate :F
One thing I also haven't decided on yet is whether you would play through the dungeon as one of the mane six, or create a custom pony/griffon/zebra/whatever to explore with. Normally roguelikes allow you a good deal of customisation, and that would also let me make the mane six important NPCs etc... though I am not yet decided. Mostly focusing on gameplay mechanics just now, but any thoughts on that point...
